Initially dizzy was kick-started by a husband & wife team. Jools Chaffer had this project in mind for a number of years. Jane a Type 1 diabetes sufferer for over 20 years, prompted Jools to bring the project to fruition. Initially the venture was fully funded and supported by Jools and Jane Chaffer, along with generous donations from friends and family.
The couple always thought that more must be done to raise awareness of diabetes and to raise funds for the development of specialist Diabetes Centres. The husband and wife team decided to investigate further how they could assist. Jools approached a senior member of the nursing team at the Worthing & Southland Diabetes Centre to get the initiative moving.
At the end of each financial year dizzy looks to offer donations from any net profit for specific projects to local Diabetes Centres or similar organisations. These have included specific requests, e.g. Dr Ute Weis (Consultant Diabetologist – Worthing & Southlands Hospital) wanted to purchase plastic food replicas, food games & books. Now educational sessions are run at the Diabetes Centre and in the local community. This will help & educate people with diabetes as to what is in the foods they eat...
Dr Weis quotes ‘people with diabetes will have access to meaningful diet sessions where they can learn how to compose healthy diets and how to get their medication or insulin matched to the food they will be eating, and also control their weight.’
